CORN PLANTING TIME

It’s time to START THE SCIENCE PROJECT and plant our first test crop. Then WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Join the Seachar.org plot crew and participate in Citizen Science as we plant our 16 test beds with our first crop of corn in our Carbon Garden Test Beds at South Seattle Community College. We will be [...]

Hi All, You can’t do Citizen Science without getting your hands dirty… So bring your gloves down to the South Seattle Community College Delridge Campus. This coming Saturday May 1st, it is time to mow and turn-in our biochar test plot’s winter cover crop. We will also be amending the 16 treatment blocks with lime. [...]

Happy New Years, This seems like a very auspices time to review the progress our intrepid little band has made in it’s attempt at citizen science. It seems hard to believe that it was less than 9 months ago that we secured access to a very unpromising, weed choked lot. In hind sight, it helped [...]

Saturday was a big day for the SeaChar team. Plot Test Update

Several of us got together on Independence Day to continue improvements on the South Seattle Community College Test Plot, which now features walkways between the individual plots.

Here, we are taking soil samples from random areas of our 16 subplots, according to the International Biochar Initiative’s plot testing guidelines.  Our goal is to take measurements of the soil prior to the application of  the Biochar.

Moving the Char to the SSCC Test Plot

Art was able to get us a ton (literally!) of BioChar graciously donated to us by Alterna Biocarbon of Prince George, BC.  Here, Don and Art are getting ready to unload it at our South Seattle Community College test plot, where it will be sampled, tested, and applied to the soil.

We met at the south end of South Seattle Community College on this cool and misty morning to make preliminary layouts of our test plot for approval with Michael Ryan.
